The original newsletters gave a week by week story of the events of the Civil War as they were unfolding in September - November of 1861. This e-mail newsletter was sent to several Civil War buffs who were greatly enjoying them. None of the original e-mail newsletters exist anymore to our knowledge. In December of 1997 (still 1861) Don's brother Bob started compiling the newsletters into HTML format and uploading to an AOL homepage so that others could enjoy them. This was the beginning of the web page "This Week in the Civil War".
As 1997 turned to 1998 so did the Civil War years change from 1861 to 1862. Every week of 1862 was compiled and uploaded for the growing number of readers of this page. In September of 1862 (1998) we had far outgrown the amount of space AOL allows for web pages and the site moved to it's current location http://www.civilweek.com.
At the time of this writing we are nearing the end of 1865 (2001). The 1865 pages are scheduled for the year 2001. Finally we will go back and finish up the 1861 pages in the year 2002. At this time we will have compiled every weeks history for the entire Civil War.
This page owes many thanks to those
who have helped us in the creation of it. Fran Cartmell and Peter Trumble for helping
proofread and edit nearly every page from 1862 (1998). Many thanks
to our good friend Jere Berger and Bergtronics for helping out with proofreading
and providing many of the great maps. And of course many thanks
go out to the readers of the page who without your kind words and encouragement
we might have stopped publishing this page a long time ago.
